(Minneapolis 11/7/05 by Poundmaster) Kevin Garnett double doubled with 22 points and 11 rebounds, plus eight assists to power the Timberwolves over the LA Clippers Monday 93-78 .
Wally Szczerbiak had 15 points. Michael Olowokandi, former Clipper, put down 10 points for the Wolves against the team that choose him as their top pick in the 1998 draft,
The smart defense being espoused by Coach Dwane Casey became obvious in the third quarter when the Timberwolves began to pull away. The Wolves propelled the momentum into the final quarter, starting three point guards (Jaric, Anthony Carter and Troy Hudson) and man Mark Madsen.
Casey using "small ball" weapon?
Kent Youngbloodin his Star Tribune article observed that Casey was looking deep into his bench, getting 29 points there, including Anthony Carter (11) and Troy Hudson (9) did well playing "small ball" as he called it. Those two with Garnett, Marko Jaric (8) and Mark Madsen (4 boards with 2 offensive) actually started the fourth quarter.
"It's a nice combination," Hudson said. "I think it takes teams out of their offense. They keep trying to post [Carter] up, not realizing it's hard to do. They get stagnant."
Youngblood observes, "That's just what Casey was looking for,"
