(Oklahoma City 11/23/05) The Timberwolves played incredible defense in the first half, building up an 18-point lead, only to have rookie Chris Paul lead the Hornets charge back in the second half to tie the game, and win in the final seconds. Kevin Garnett who had his third consecutive double-double and sixth of the season had a chance to tie the game in the last seconds on a spectacular steal, but he missed a wide open laying over the rim.
Kevin Garnett had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Troy Hudsen kept the Timberwolves in the game in the second half with his 4 for 6 three point shooting and 17 points. David West led the Hornets with 22 points and 13 rebounds for his own double-double. Chris Paul had 21, 19 of them in the 2nd half.
The Timberwolves had 8 of their 12 turnovers in the second half, and a first round rebounding advantage turned into a rebounding deficit in the second half, with the Hornets grabbing 14 offensive rebounds for the game.
With 4 minutes left in the game, Kevin Garnett began taking charge, scoring two straight to make it 74-70. The Hornets countered with two buckets, including a power stuff to tie the game again at 74-74. Chris Paul then hit a big three pointer for his 20th point, and another two for a 79-74 lead.
The Wolves were up only 70-67 midway through the 4th quarter. The Hornets had outscored the Timberwolves 19-9 to start the third quarter and close the lead to two points 57-55. with two minutes to go in the third quarter. But Richie Frahm put new life back into the Timberwolves by hitting a three in the closing seconds of the quarter.
