(Minneapolis 11/29/05 Poundmaster's Report) It had been over three years since this happened. Despite another Kevin Garnett double-double and a 14-unanswered-point fourth quarter comeback, the Timberwolves could not muster enough engery or make shotes when needed, losing to the LA Clippers tonight for the first time since March 2002.
Corey Maggette had the hot hand for the Clippers with 30 points, including a 8-9 from three point range. Kevin Garnet had 29 points and 13 rebounds and Eddie Griffin had 14 rebounds for the Wolves 93-84.
A 6-6 guard, Maggette scored eight points in the third quarter, which Los Angeles closed with a 13-3 run to take a 72-60 lead. The Clippers outscored the Timberwolves, 25-16, in the period. Cuttino Mobley hit a 3-pointer with 2:38 left in the 3rd quarter to put the Clippers up by 9 at 68-59. The Clippers behind the scoring leadership of Corey Maggette built their largest lead at 8 points midway through the 3rd quarter 65-57. The Clippers built up a six point lead in the first six minutes of the second half, 56-50. But KG hit a long jumper and Olowokandi hit an inside jumper to bring the Timberwolves back to within two points, 56-54.
Down 16, the Wolves ran off 11 consecutive fourth-quarter points while using this lineup: Kevin Garnett. Marko Jaric. Troy Hudson. Eddie Griffin. McCants.
"We just didn't hit the shots when we had them," said Minnesota's Wally Szczerbiak. "We've got to make them especially on our home court if we expect to win."
