*Chance for Wolves to create momentum
(Los Angeles 12/2/05 by Poundmaster) Wally Szerbiak and Kevin Garnett one-two punch brought the Timberwolves back from an 18-point deficit to a 5 point victory over the Lakers. Wally had 34 points, 28 in the 2nd half, including the three pointer that clinched the game in the final minute. KG had 29 points and 8 rebounds, and scored back-to-back buckets to build the Wolves a 10-point lead in that final minute.
The story of the deficit lies in the 32-16 rebounding edge the Lakers built over the Timberwolves into the third quarter. But the Timberwolves finally went to work in the lst 10 minutes, to stay even in rebounding with the Laker for those key final minutes.
One nice note for the Timberwolves was that most of the nine point third quarter run came with Garnet resting on the bench with his 5th personal foul. And, it was Trenton Hassell's dramatic 3-pointer that put the Timberwolves up for the last time at the 3:56 mark.
With 5:42 left in the final quarter, Troy Hudson's three-point shooting helped pull the even with the Lakers 92-92. The Wolves had been down by 18 points in the ball game. Hudson's shooting keyed a 9-0 run which started at the end of the third quarter and extended into the fourth quarter when the Timberwolves began to make their big move. The smaller Timberwolves lineup was on the floot at the time, and when Kevin Garnett reentered the game, the Wolves began their move into the lead.
Laker center Chris Mihm fouled out with a little less than three minutes left in the game. The Wolves immediately extended their lead to eight points. |
