(Portland 12/8/05 Poundmaster) Wally Szczerbiak continued his hot hand, Marko Jeric stepped up, and Keving Garnett
performed his now patented double-double as the Timberwolves brilliant defense stopped the Portand Trailblazers dead in their trackS for the last five-and-a-half minutes for an 84-74 win Wednesday night. The Blazers could manage only one basket during that defensive bliz.
Wally and Marko scored 19 points each, and KG double-doubled with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Eddie Griffin continued his power play with 8 points and 9 rebounds.
"I thought tonight was a gut-check game," coach Dwane Casey said. "It was a situation where we just couldn't get it going. They came out and played well. I told our guys at halftime we expected a 48-minute game, and we got it."
The Timberwolves continued to win when the contol the boards, holding a 47-35 margin, 15-9 on the offensive board. Portland made only 4 of 14 shots in the fourth quarter.
