(Minnesota 12/10/05 by Poundmaster) Wally Szczerbiak went on his own 8-0 run in the second half, and the Wolves defense locked in to stop a Lakers run, as the Minnesota Timberwolves took a 95-82 battle tonight. Kevin Garnett had a season-high 30 points and Wally had 25 in the victory. Trenton Hassell did a fine defensive job on Kobe Bryant despite Bryants 35 on the score sheet.
Szczerbiak went on his 8-0 individual run late in the 3rd quarter to build the Wolves lead to 13 points. KG dunked at 1:19 to put the Wolves up by 15 at 72-58.
The Lakers had their own 8-0 end of first half run, extending it to 13-2 in the first minutes of the second half, cutting the once 17 point Timberwolves lead to only 5 points. One observer noted that Kobe Bryant was passing more this game, but still had 13 points to go with his 2 assists. Garnett had made the only four points for the Wolves at the 9:07 mark. The Lakers took over the boards to close the gap to 4 points, but Wally came back with a three pointer at 3:28 and a 63-56 seven point lead.
The Minnesota Timberwolves listened to Coach Casey's suggestion that they not let up from their momentum building road trip, driving ahead of the visiting Los Angeles Lakers 27-18 in the first quarter. Garnett, Szczerbiak, Marko Jeric and Hassell provided the scoring momentum, shooting 63% in the period.
The Wolves bench continued to excel in the 2nd quarter, building the lead while giving the starters a break. Rashad McCants and Mark Madsen entered the game two minutes into the 2nd quarter and helped build the lead to 13 points at 36-23. McCants scored 8 points during the first three minute stretch.
