(Minneapolis 12/24/05 by Poundmaster) Kevin Garnett hit a three with 37 seconds remaining but it was not enough as the Portland Trailblazers took the Timberwolves to task on the boards and in the paint tonight 91-83. Wally Szczerbiak led scorers with 26. KG added 24 with 8 boards and 6 assists. Ruben Patterson led the Blazers with 23 points and Zach Randolph had 21 with 10 rebounds.
The Wolves were killed in the paint 42-18 and on the boards 44-29. And they were held to under 90 points by the Blazers defense.
The Wolves appeared to collapse midway through the 4th quarter down 82-74, but their defense kept Portland from shooting on a 24-second call. Then a KG steal was followed by a Troy two. Troy had been cold up until that moment. A Mad Dog rebound resulted in a KG-assisted Wally layup, and the Wolves were back to within 4 at 82-78 with 3:30 remaining.
The Blazers went up by 4 on the Wolves at 76-72 at 7:30, but KG scored to bring the game back to within two. Portland scored and Kandi fouled out at the 7:06 mark, and Portland sank free throws to put the Blazers up by 5 80-74 and 7:06 left to play. The Blazers were on an 20-4 run during this stretch.
The Wolves led the Trailblazers 70-64 at the end of three quarters. At 4:07 in the 3rd quarter, Wally hit a three to put the Wolves up 72-67. Marco followed for a 7 point lead and a 7-0 run. Trenton Hassell put the Wolves up by 8 at 70-62 and a minute to go in the 3rd.
