(Minnesota 12/26/05 by Poundmaster) The Phoenix Suns simply had too many weapons tonight as they outshot the Minnesota Timberwolves 103-89 tonight in a game that saw several large scoring strings and comebacks.
The Suns went up by 14 points at 101-87 with two minutes left in the game. Shooting 52% from the field, the Suns went on two double digit runs in the fourth quarter, with the Wolves fighting back , once to within three points.
Kevin Garnett had 27 points and 19 rebounds in losing. Wally Szczerbiak had another team high scoring game with 27 tonight. Trenton Hassell hit several clutch shots among his 14 points. Boris Diaw-Riffiod led the Phoenix Suns with 31 points and 10 rebounds. Steve Nash hit 24 points, including two three-point shots at critical points in the game. Shawn Mario had 19 points and 15 rebounds.
Mark Madsen started his first game, but went down hard on his back, hitting his head in the first quarter. He left he floor to be examined and it was determined he had a bad back bruise and no other damage. He returned to the bench but was too sore to play in the game tonight.
At the 10-minute mark, just when the Wolves had fought back to within three points, the Suns again went on a spectacular three point shooting spree to go ahead of the fighting Timberwolves again by a 91-77 margin.
The Wolves scored on 13 of the last 14 possessions of the third quarter, but were only able to reduce the hot Suns lead by six points. But a flurry of shooting capped by a spectacular KG stuff brought the Timberwolves to within 3 points with 10 minutes left in the game.
The Timberwolves tonight held one of the hottest teams in the NBA, the Phoenix Suns, to only 45 first half points, trailing by three at 45-42. Kevin Garnett already had a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds by halftime. Wally Szczerbiak had 11 first have points. |
