Wally leads the way again as Wolves down Sonics 108-95; Eddie comes up big

(Minneapolis 12/28/05 by Poundmaster) Wally Szczerbiak led the Timberwolves in scoring for every game in December, and with 30 points tonight, led the hard fought victory over the Seattle Sonics 108-95. The Timberwolves led the whole way, once by as much as 24 points, but the tension was high as the Sonics kept closing the gap, once to within 8 points in the fourth quarter.
Kevin Garnett fouled out with a double double at 26 points and 10 rebounds with 6 assists. Eddie Griffin had 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Trenton Hassell held Ray Allen to 24 points, and Marko Jaric had 8 points and 10 assists in the game. The Wolves shot 58% from the field, while the defense forced 22 sonic turnovers.
Both teams went scoreless for the first two minutes of the final quarter until a Rashad McCants free throw put the game at 80-67 with 9:30 remaining. Then, with the game at 80-72, the Wolves went on a 7-0 run for an 87-72 15-point lead with 7 minutes remaining in the game.
The Minnesota Timberwolves shooting 60% through the 3rd quarter, and holding the Sonics to 41% shooting on defense, ran to an 24-point lead to start the second half 76-52 on the strength of Kevin Garnett, Wally Szczerbiak and Eddie Griffin shooting.
The Timberwolves led the Seattle Supersonics 51-41 at the end of the first half. The Sonics closed a 21 point first half Minnesota lead to 10 with a 7-point run and some tough play in the final minutes. Ray Allen was handled well by Trenton Hassell, and had only 9 first half points. Kevin Garnett has 12 first half points and 7 rebounds, three on offense.
The Timberwolves shot 60% for the first ten minutes of this game going up on the Seattle Supersonics 20-12. Kevin Garnett and Griffin led the way early with 14 of the first 20 points. The Wolves built an 15-point lead in this quarter at 30-15 on hard inside play by Garnett.
Mark Madsen coming back from a Monday injury, entered the game to rousing fan applause in the final seconds of the first quarter. Madsen stayed in the game to start the 2nd quarter.
