*Wolves held to season low, ESPN
(Miami 1/1/2006 by Poundmaster) It was New Year's day by it was the Timberwolves that had their bell rung in the third quarter of a game where they had a three point lead at halftime. In that 3rd quarter the Heat got hot outscoring the Timberwolves 32-15. The final score was 97-70 in a game where the Wolves could only muster 26 second half points.
Wally Szczerbiak again led the Timberwolves with 19 points, being held under 20 for the first time after a 10 game 20-point streak. A frustrated Kevin Garnett would score only 11 points in the game.
"We're a big question mark," Garnett said. "We have no real identity at this point. We show glimpses of being very, very good defensively. ... But I don't think you can stamp us as a defensive team or stamp us as a team with an identity right now."
The Heat exhibited balanced scoring with Dwayne Wade hitting 19 points, Shaquille O'Neal 16, Alonzo Mouring 13, James Posey 11 and Gary Payton 10.
Miami outscored Minnesota 25-6 in the opening 7:30 of the third quarter, turning a three-point halftime deficit into a 66-50 lead.
"We hit a wall," Timberwolves coach Dwane Casey said. "We hit a freight train in the third quarter. Offensively we couldn't execute, we couldn't shoot and we couldn't score. ... They turned the heat up and we didn't respond." |
