(Detroit 2/1/06 by Poundmaster) The Detroit Pistons defense behind Ben Wallaces' 17 rebounds, 8 on offense, buried the Minnesota Wolves tonight 90-74, and it was not that close. Richard Hamilton had 21 points and Tayshaun Prince added an athletic 20.
Kevin Garnett had only 14 points but had 12 rebounds as Wallace tied him down for the entire game. Tenton Hassell took up some slack, but not enough with his 14 point effort. The T-wolves turned the ball over 18 times and shot only 14% from three point range.
A Garnett rebound and full court pass resulted in a Rashadd McCants stuff to start the 4th quarter down 70-54. But Detroit took over with thre offensive rebounds in a row to build back to an 22-point lead at 78-56 at the mark.
The Pistons continued on a roll into the 3rd quarter, building a 21-point lead 59-38 at the 7:26 mark. They had already gone on a 20-2 run in the 2nd quarter to go up on the Timberwolves 47-37 at halftime. Tayshaun Prince had 13 points for the Pistons. Kevin Garnett and Trenton Hassell had 10 points in the first half. Ricky Davis had 8 points at that point.
Carlos Delfino canned a three to put Detroit up 40-29 with 3:01 remaining in the first half. A Rasheed Wallace three put the Pistons up by 14 points 43-29. Both teams were shooting 55% well into the second quarter as Detroit moved to a 33-27 6-point lead by the 5:39 mark. They had been tied 27-27 at the 8:40 mark. Tayshaun Price was the scoring story at that with 13 points.
The Timberwolves led the Pistons 22-11 at the end of the first quarter tonight in Detroit, home of this year's Superbowl football game. Trenton Hassell scored 8 of the timberwolves first 8 points.
