Toronto three point whip Timberwolves 98-94 in another close loss

(Minneapolis 2/13/06 by Poundmaster) The Toronto Rapters defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves with their three point shooting game 98-94. The Timberwolves played hard and well, but not good enough. Kevin Garnett had a another exceptional game with 23 points and 19 rebounds. But Mike James 27 points including 3 3's and Morris Peterson's 20 points and 4 threes were too much.
Mike James sunk both ends of a two shot foul to put the Raptors up four points at 98-94 and 4.9 seconds remaining in the game. The Wolves missed a corner three as time ran out. James had scored on a drive with 8 second remaining to make it a two possession game 96-92, and Hassell dunked to bring it to 96-94 at 4.9. Trenton Hassell had made an excellent kiss off the board shot with 30 seconds remaining to pull the Timberwolves within 2 points of the Rapters 94-92.
Garnett inside made it 92-90 with 1:42 to go. The Timberwolves moved within three points of the Raptors behind Anthony Carter who rebounded and gave Ricky Davis a jumper to make it 89-86 at 3:00 remaining. Trenton Hassell made it 89-88 from the top of the key.
The Raptors lead the Timberwolves 77-70 at the end of three quarters behind the double digit scoring of Mike James, Morris Peterson, and Charlie Villanueva.
The first half ended with the Raptors leading the Wolves 53-48. A Davis Steal followed by a Blount stuff and three point play, and the Wolves were up 44-42 at 3:50 to go in the half. But the lead changed hands again on a Charlie Villanueva three 45-44. Then, another Charlie three put it at 48-44. |
