(Minnesota 2/26/2006 by Poundmaster) Ricky Davis scored 35 points, including the last 12 in the game, to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves past the Memphis Grizzlies 105-97. Marcus Banks started his first game at point guard tonight.
Ricky Davis made up for a KG game ejection with his 35 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Banks had 13 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Rashad McCants made a major contribution scoring 12 key points down the stretch.
"When KG left the game, it put more pressure on us to perform tonight," said Rashad McCants. "I think the up tempo game has helped us. Marcus and Ricky are more athletic, so we can mix up everything we do out there. Marcus Banks gave us a shot in the arm tonight."
Kevin Garnett lightly tossed the ball into the audience in the 3rd quarter, resulting in an automatic ejection under NBA guidelines. There was no speed on the ball and no intent. Kevin apologized to the fan before leaving the floor. AP reported that he said he was going for a delay of game call and did not intend to throw the ball into the stands.
The Wolves had 4 steals at the 3:50 mark in the fourth quarter as the Wolves defense helped build a 95-88 lead. The Wolves had gone on a 12-4 run to build a 98-88 lead at 2:19.
The Wolves score on 6 straight possessions to end the third quarter leading 81-72. The Grizzlies had tied the Timberwolves for the second time in the game 72-72 at the 2 minute mark in the third quarter.
Rookie Rashad McCants scored a three in the closing seconds of the first half to give the Wolves a 58-54 lead over the Grizzlies.
The Wolves came up big in the first half on the boards, with a 23-13 edge, 7 on offense. Minnesota led Memphis 30-24 after one quarter.
