(Minnesota 3/2/06 by Poundmaster) The Minnesota Timberwolves bench outscored the New Jersey Nets bench 40-4 and Kevin Garnett had his 43rd double-double of the season in this 100-90 Wolves victory. Rashad McCants was strong with 21 points and three three-pointers. Ricky Davis had 20 points.
The Nets were struggling against the Timberwolves 1-2-2 zone defense in the fourth quarter, going down to the Wolves 89-79 with 2:12 to go. With 1:13 to go, the score was 94-83 and the Wolves bench had scored 38 points to 4 for the Nets bench.
The Timberwolves extended their lead in the 4th quarter to 80-71 as McCants hit two free throws. The Nets then hit two buckets to make it 80-75 at 5:17. Justin Reed then hit on a layup and free throw to put the Wolves up 8 at 85-77.
The Timberwolves led 72-67 at the end of three quarters behind 29-2 bench scoring and 60% shooting. The Timberwolves led the Nets 54-45 at halftime behind strong 25-2 bench scoring for the Wolves. Rashad McCants had 13 points with 3 for 3 from three point land. Davis had 2 three pointers at that point.
Minnesota exploded to a 15 point lead in the second quarter, much of it with Kevin Garnett resting on the bench. With 4:29 left in the half, they led in rebounding 16-9 and were shooting 72%. There was a moment near the end of the half where turnovers hurt the Wolves again. They finished the half with 12 turnovers to the Nets 6, but controlled the boards for the half 23-13.
